Description
Tonga 1962 Gold ¼ Koula ‘Queen Salote Tupou III’This coin celebrates the life of Queen Salote “Charlotte” Tupou III, the longest reigning monarch in the Kingdom of Tonga’s history ~ 48 years, from 1918 until her death in 1965.
She followed her father to the throne and was succeed by her son, “Slaosi” King Taufa’ahau Tupou IV.
Tribal elders had hoped that Charlotte’s father would produce a male heir; they were mollified somewhat by her choice of husband, responding well to ‘a good match’.
Queen Salote worked hard for her people, modernizing society and the government’s structure, establishing a constitutional monarchy.
The coin features a bust of the queen on the obverse and the island nation’s coat of arms on the reverse.
Authenticated and graded, MS 65 by PCGS (a leading 3rd party grading company), the coin is a superb example of the mintage. I had looking for this coin to come on the market for 2+ years; when it
finally
showed itself, it came in a lot of six. No way 'round it, if I wanted one (and I most certainly did) I had to but all six. I had all six graded and am keeping the best one.
I am a collector, not a merchant and
make these coins available simply to recoup the money
I've
got in them.
I will ship via USPS priority mail, fully insured.
Thank you for considering this beautiful piece.
